Rockologists

September28

After learning about sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks, we tested our skills at identifying rocks. Third graders partnered up, used resources in the room, and tried to identify 12 different rocks. Some rocks were easy like obsidian, pumice and sandstone. Some were challenging like gneiss, limestone, and shale. Everyone did a great job!

As part of our rocks and minerals unit, we attempted to grow salt crystals. We mixed our solution and poured it over charcoal briquets. Then we waited.
